About T-Mobile network unlocks

T-Mobile US (which now also covers Sprint and Metro by T-Mobile devices following the 2020 merger) provides device unlocks through its own official channel. As of T-Mobile's published Mobile Device Unlock Policy, a device is generally eligible for unlock when the account associated with the device is in good standing and the device has been active on the network for the period T-Mobile requires for its postpaid or prepaid plans — see T-Mobile's official policy page for the current criteria.

What DeviceDecoded does

We submit your IMEI directly through the manufacturer's official unlock channel. The unlock is whitelisted on the manufacturer's database, which means it survives factory resets, OS updates, and SIM swaps — there is no software installed on your phone, no rooting, and no jailbreak. Once the unlock is confirmed, your device works on any GSM-compatible network worldwide.

Common gotchas

  • Device not paid off — T-Mobile typically will not unlock a device still on an Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) or lease until it is paid in full.
  • Account in arrears — accounts with outstanding balances usually need to be brought current before an unlock will process.
  • Reported lost/stolen — devices flagged on the blacklist cannot be unlocked through any official channel.
