How to check your Asus warranty status in the UK

Where to find your Asus serial number or IMEI

Before checking your coverage, you need the unique identifier for your device. Asus tracks all warranty claims through a serial number or an IMEI. The location of this code depends on whether you own a laptop, handheld, component, or mobile phone.

For Asus laptops, including Zenbook, Vivobook, TUF Gaming, and ROG Strix lines, check the underside casing. Look for a small rectangular sticker displaying a barcode alongside a string labelled "SSN", "S/N", or "Serial Number". This is a 15-character alphanumeric code that usually starts with a letter like L, M, or N. If the sticker has worn off, you can retrieve the code directly from Windows. Open Command Prompt, type wmic bios get serialnumber, and press Enter. You can also view it inside the pre-installed MyASUS application under System Information.

For ROG Ally handheld consoles, the serial number sits on the bottom edge of the device near the cooling vents, printed directly onto the plastic chassis.

For PC components such as graphics cards and motherboards, the serial number is printed on a white sticker attached to the side of the PCIe slot, the 24-pin power connector, or the backplate of the GPU. If you still have the retail packaging, the identical serial number appears next to the EAN barcode on the box label.

For ROG Phone and Zenfone models, your device uses both a serial number and a 15-digit IMEI. Dial *#06# on the phone keypad to bring the IMEI straight onto the screen. Alternatively, head to Settings, select "About Phone", and tap "Status". If you are verifying a smartphone or tablet and want to double-check hardware specifications and origin details alongside warranty status, tools like Device Decoded provide a fast lookup using just the 15-digit IMEI.

Methods to run an Asus warranty check

Once you have your identifier, you can verify your active cover through several official channels.

The primary route is the official Asus UK Warranty Status Inquiry page on the Asus support portal. You paste your 15-character serial number into the search field, solve the security captcha, and submit. The system returns the exact model name, the original country of purchase, and the warranty expiration date. If the system calculates warranty purely from the factory production date rather than your invoice date, you may notice a slight discrepancy. Asus allows you to correct this by uploading a proof of purchase receipt when registering the machine.

Laptop and desktop users can also check coverage directly inside Windows using the MyASUS desktop app. Open the app, log in to your Asus Member profile, and the dashboard displays your machine's registered status, current support tier, and remaining days of cover. This app also lets you purchase Asus Premium Care warranty extensions if your device is still within its initial standard warranty period.

If you are looking up mobile devices, you can explore product-specific archives on our Asus device hub to confirm hardware releases, model variants, and standard specifications before submitting service requests.

Standard Asus warranty periods in the UK

Asus assigns different warranty lengths depending on product category. Most consumer laptops receive between 12 and 24 months, whereas core desktop components often carry longer protection periods.

Product Category Standard UK Warranty Service Type
ROG & Zenbook Laptops 12 to 24 months Collect & Return (Courier)
TUF Gaming & Vivobook 12 months Collect & Return (Courier)
Motherboards & Graphics Cards 36 months Return to Base / Retailer RMA
Gaming Monitors 36 months On-site swap or Collect & Return
ROG Phone & Zenfone 24 months Collect & Return
Laptop Batteries & Power Adapters 12 months Carry-in or Mail-in

Note that internal rechargeable batteries on laptops usually carry only 12 months of coverage, even if the host laptop itself has a 24-month warranty. Asus treats battery packs as consumable components whose capacity naturally degrades over charge cycles.

What Asus warranty covers and what it excludes

An Asus manufacturer warranty covers mechanical and electrical failure caused by defects in materials or workmanship during standard use. If your Zenbook screen develops lines, the motherboard VRMs fail on your ROG board, or the internal cooling fan begins rattling within the warranty period, Asus will repair or replace the affected parts free of charge.

Asus monitors also carry specific pixel failure guidelines. Premium models with Zero Bright Dot (ZBD) guarantees allow for panel replacement if even one bright sub-pixel remains permanently illuminated during the first 12 months. Standard models follow ISO 13406-2 Class II standards, requiring a minimum threshold of dark or bright sub-pixels before qualifying for a panel swap.

The standard warranty does not cover the following scenarios:

  • Accidental damage, such as cracked OLED screens, dented aluminium lids, or liquid spills on the keyboard.
  • Damage caused by third-party modifications, including failed custom BIOS flashing, improper delidding of processors, or soldering on circuit boards.
  • Cosmetic wear and tear, including scratched anodised finishes, keycap wear, or fading paint.
  • Software issues, malware infections, operating system corruption, or data loss.
  • Unauthorised repair attempts by non-certified technicians that compromise the internal structure.

If you upgrade the RAM or M.2 NVMe storage drive inside an Asus ROG or TUF laptop, Asus UK permits this without voiding the warranty, provided you do not break internal plastic clips, strip screws, or short out components during the upgrade. Keep the original components handy, because Asus will ask you to reinstall factory parts before returning a unit for RMA servicing.

How the Asus UK repair and RMA process works

If your device is faulty and your warranty check confirms active coverage, you can book a Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) through the Asus UK support site.

First, submit your claim online describing the symptom. You will need to upload your proof of purchase if the online system lists your warranty as expired based on the factory build date. Once Asus validates the claim, they issue an RMA reference number and send a prepaid shipping label, typically via DPD or UPS.

Before handing your device to the courier, prepare the hardware carefully:

  1. Back up all personal files, documents, and game saves to an external drive or cloud storage. Repair technicians routinely wipe SSDs during hardware testing and OS reinstallation.
  2. Remove Windows PINs, local passwords, and BitLocker drive encryption, or provide the recovery key so technicians can run diagnostic suites.
  3. Remove external accessories such as SD cards, USB dongles, and third-party styluses. Send the original power brick only if the fault relates to charging or power delivery.
  4. Pack the device in sturdy cardboard with substantial bubble wrap. Do not use the original presentation box if you want to keep it, as repair centres do not guarantee its return.

Once received at the UK repair centre, turnarounds generally take between 5 to 10 working days, subject to replacement component availability. You can track the live repair status online by entering your RMA number on the Asus support portal.

Asus manufacturer warranty vs UK Consumer Rights Act 2015

It is important not to confuse an Asus commercial warranty with your statutory legal rights in the UK. The Asus warranty is an additional contractual guarantee provided by the manufacturer. It exists alongside the Consumer Rights Act 2015, not in place of it.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, your legal contract is with the retailer who sold you the item, such as Currys, Amazon UK, Scan, or eBuyer, rather than Asus directly. If an Asus laptop develops an inherent manufacturing fault within the first 30 days of ownership, you are entitled to a full refund from the retailer.

Between 30 days and 6 months, if a fault emerges, the law presumes the defect existed at the point of delivery unless the retailer can prove otherwise. The retailer must offer a free repair or replacement. Beyond 6 months and up to 6 years (5 years in Scotland), you can still hold the retailer responsible for inherent manufacturing defects, though the burden falls on you to prove the fault was not caused by ordinary wear or misuse.

If your Asus 12-month manufacturer warranty has run out, but the machine suffers a catastrophic board failure after 18 months of careful use, you may still pursue a remedy through the retailer under UK consumer law.

Warranty rules for second-hand and refurbished Asus gear

Buying used Asus hardware from marketplaces like eBay or Facebook Marketplace requires extra caution regarding warranty transfers. Asus warranty coverage is tied directly to the device serial number. In practical terms, Asus UK repair centres will usually honour the remaining warranty based on the factory production date associated with that serial number, even if you are not the original purchaser.

However, if the production date suggests the warranty has lapsed, but the original buyer purchased the unit recently, you will need a copy of the original retail VAT invoice to claim coverage. Without that invoice, Asus will go strictly by the manufacturing timestamp in their database.

If you purchase an official manufacturer-refurbished Asus device from an authorised outlet, it usually comes with a separate 12-month refurbished warranty managed directly by the refurbisher or retailer. Always verify the serial number on the casing matches the internal system BIOS to ensure the chassis has not been swapped during a previous third-party repair.
