About Tesco Mobile unlocks
Tesco Mobile is a UK MVNO operating on O2's network, jointly owned by Tesco PLC and Virgin Media O2. Like all UK carriers, Tesco Mobile falls under Ofcom's 1 December 2021 ruling: devices must either be sold network-unlocked from purchase or be unlockable free of charge on request.
Eligibility
Tesco Mobile devices sold on or after 1 December 2021 are factory-unlocked. Older Tesco-locked devices can be unlocked at no cost through Tesco Mobile's customer-service flow, provided the account is in good standing, the device is paid in full (no remaining Phone Plan instalment), and the IMEI is not reported lost or stolen.
What DeviceDecoded does
We process the unlock through the manufacturer's official IMEI channel for owners whose Tesco Mobile request has been declined for an account-related reason, or who prefer to skip the customer-service flow. The unlock is permanent at the factory level — it survives factory resets, OS updates, SIM swaps, and use on any compatible carrier worldwide.
Tesco Mobile-specific notes
- Already unlocked — most Tesco devices from December 2021 onwards ship unlocked; before paying, try a non-Tesco SIM to confirm.
- Phone Plan — Tesco's separate handset-finance plan must be settled before an unlock route works cleanly.
