About O2 network unlocks
O2 is one of the UK's four major mobile networks, owned by Virgin Media O2. Since the Ofcom unlocking ruling that took effect on 1 December 2021, O2 — along with all UK carriers — is required to either sell phones unlocked from purchase or unlock them free of charge on request.
Eligibility
O2 devices sold on or after 1 December 2021 are factory-unlocked. Older O2-locked devices can be unlocked at no cost via O2's online unlock-request form, provided the device has been on the network for any minimum period O2 currently specifies, the account is in good standing, and the device is not reported lost or stolen. Pay Monthly devices on a contract typically need to be paid in full; Pay As You Go has its own active-use window.
What DeviceDecoded does
If your O2 unlock request has been blocked for an account reason, or you want to skip O2's request flow, we process the unlock through the manufacturer's official IMEI channel — Apple, Samsung, Google, etc. The unlock is permanent and whitelisted at the factory level, surviving factory resets, OS updates, and SIM swaps.

- Giffgaff — Giffgaff is an O2 MVNO; Giffgaff devices have always shipped unlocked since the brand launched in 2009.
- Tesco Mobile, Sky Mobile, Lyca Mobile — these are O2 MVNOs with their own unlock policies; an O2 unlock does not automatically resolve them.
- Virgin Mobile UK — now part of Virgin Media O2; recent Virgin Mobile UK devices follow the merged O2 policy.
- Blacklist — devices flagged in O2's lost / stolen database cannot be unlocked through any legitimate route.
