What is the Xiaomi Mi Account Lock?
The Mi Account lock is Xiaomi's built-in anti-theft feature, tied to the "Find Device" service in MIUI / HyperOS. When a Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO is reset without first removing its Mi Account, the setup wizard demands the original Mi Account credentials before the phone can be used. Without them, the device is stuck at the "This device is locked" screen. It is Xiaomi's counterpart to Apple's iCloud Activation Lock and Google's FRP.
While the Mi Account lock protects owners from theft, it becomes a problem when you legitimately acquire a device where the previous owner didn't sign out of their Mi Account before resetting it — a common situation with second-hand purchases and inherited phones.
