About Google IMEI checks

Google manufactures the Pixel smartphone line, Pixel Watch, Pixel Buds, Pixel Tablet, and Chromecast. Pixel phones — from the original Pixel and Pixel XL through the current Pixel lineup — all carry a 15-digit IMEI registered with the GSMA. As the reference Android hardware, Pixels run a near-stock build of Android, receive the longest guaranteed software updates of any Android phone, and are the only Android phones with full first-party Google AI features (Gemini Nano, Magic Editor) available at launch.

Find the IMEI on a Google Pixel by dialling *#06# on the keypad, opening Settings → About phone → IMEI, or checking the original retail box. The IMEI is also laser-etched on the SIM card tray of every Pixel that has one (most international Pixels). US Pixel models from Pixel 7 onwards are eSIM-only and have no SIM tray; the IMEI is printed on the back of the device near the bottom edge instead.

Pixel phones ship in regional variants that mostly differ in cellular-band support and eSIM/physical-SIM configuration. A US Pixel 8 supports US carrier 5G bands and is eSIM-only; international Pixels have a physical SIM tray and global LTE/5G band support. Run an IMEI check to confirm the exact regional model before buying internationally — a US-only Pixel will not work as well on European or Asian carriers.

How do I find the IMEI on my Pixel phone?

Dial *#06# on the keypad — the IMEI displays immediately. You can also find it in Settings > About phone > IMEI. International Pixels have the IMEI laser-etched on the SIM card tray; US-market Pixel 7 and later models are eSIM-only and have the IMEI printed on the back near the bottom edge instead. How long is the Pixel software-update commitment?

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro launched with a seven-year commitment to Android version updates, security patches, and feature drops — the longest commitment of any Android phone. Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 received five years of security updates and three years of Android version updates. The IMEI check identifies the exact model so you can confirm how many years of updates the device still has remaining.

How long is Google Pixel warranty?

Google provides a one-year limited manufacturer warranty in most markets, two years in the European Union under EU consumer law. Preferred Care is Google's extended-warranty plan offering up to two additional years of coverage plus accidental damage protection. The eligibility check by IMEI confirms current coverage status.

Are US and international Pixel phones the same?

The hardware platform is the same but cellular-band support differs. US Pixels prioritise US carrier 5G bands and (from Pixel 7 onwards) are eSIM-only — no physical SIM tray. International Pixels have global LTE/5G band coverage and a physical SIM tray. An IMEI check identifies the exact regional model so you know what network compatibility to expect.

Can a Pixel be carrier-locked?

Yes — Pixels sold through US carriers (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T) are carrier-locked for an initial period. Pixels bought directly from the Google Store, on Amazon, or internationally ship factory-unlocked. Run our carrier lookup to identify the original carrier, then either wait out the carrier's unlock-eligibility window or request an unlock through the carrier's self-service portal.

How do I know if a used Pixel is stolen?

Run the IMEI through our free lost & stolen database check. Pixels reported lost or stolen are added to the GSMA global blacklist by the original carrier or owner, and a blacklisted IMEI cannot connect to most cellular networks. Combined with a check that the device is signed out of the previous owner's Google account (Find My Device should be cleared), the IMEI lookup is the essential pre-purchase step.

What is the Google Pixel serial number used for?

The Pixel serial number is a separate alphanumeric code Google uses for warranty tracking, repair, and Preferred Care registration. It is shown in Settings > About phone > Model & hardware. The IMEI handles cellular-network identification and blacklisting; the serial number handles Google's internal systems. Both can identify the device but serve different ecosystems.

How accurate is the Pixel IMEI check?
