Coverage Details

How Apple Coverage Works

Every Apple device — iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple TV, HomePod — ships with Apple's one-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. The clock starts on the original retail purchase date, and the warranty stays with the device when sold or transferred.

AppleCare+ is the optional extended-protection plan that adds up to two extra years of hardware coverage plus accidental damage protection — usually two incidents per 12 months for a service fee. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is available in some regions and adds two replacement claims per year against theft or loss (Find My must be active on the device).

Apple coverage is tied to the device, not the Apple ID, so an iPhone you buy second-hand inherits whatever coverage the original owner enrolled in. Verifying that coverage before you buy is the only way to avoid paying full price for a device whose warranty expired three months ago — or whose AppleCare+ accidental-damage incidents have already been used up.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AppleCare+ and how is it different from standard Apple warranty?
Every new Apple device ships with a standard one-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects only. AppleCare+ is an optional extended plan that adds up to two extra years of hardware coverage and includes accidental damage protection — typically two incidents per 12 months for a service fee. AppleCare+ also adds 24/7 priority support and battery service when capacity drops below 80%.
Can I check Apple coverage using an IMEI instead of a serial number?
Yes. Our tool accepts both Apple serial numbers and IMEI numbers. iPhones, cellular iPads, and cellular Apple Watch models have an IMEI; Wi-Fi-only iPads, Macs, AirPods, Apple TVs, and HomePods are identified by serial number. Enter whichever you have — we route the lookup to the right Apple coverage database automatically.
How do I find the serial number on my Apple device?
On iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch: Settings > General > About > Serial Number. On Mac: Apple menu > About This Mac. On AirPods: open the case lid next to your iPhone, then Settings > Bluetooth > tap "i" next to the AirPods entry. The serial is also printed on the original packaging and on the back of most Apple hardware.
Why does my Apple coverage say "Not Eligible for Service"?
This usually means the device is more than 12 months past warranty expiry without active AppleCare+, or the device was reported lost/stolen and locked by Apple. It can also indicate a refurbished unit not yet activated, or a device sold through a non-authorised channel that Apple has not registered. Contact Apple Support with the serial for confirmation.
Does AppleCare+ transfer when I sell my device?
Yes. AppleCare+ stays with the device, not the original buyer's Apple ID. The new owner inherits whatever coverage period and accidental-damage incidents remain. Apple does not require any paperwork to transfer — the coverage is automatic on resale.
Why should I check warranty before buying a used Apple device?
Remaining coverage directly affects what a used Apple device is worth. A used iPhone with 18 months of AppleCare+ remaining is worth substantially more than the same model with expired warranty — any hardware failure on the latter is full retail repair pricing. Always run an AppleCare check before agreeing a price.
Does this Apple coverage check work for all Apple products?
Yes — iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple TV, HomePod, Beats, and Apple's wired/wireless accessories. Any Apple product with a serial number can be looked up. Older devices (pre-2012) may have less detailed coverage data because Apple's registration system has changed over time.
Can I extend AppleCare+ after the standard warranty has expired?
Generally no — Apple requires AppleCare+ enrolment within 60 days of the original device purchase. Some regions allow up to 12 months with a diagnostic check at an Apple Store. After that window, AppleCare+ is no longer available for that specific device. AppleCare+ monthly subscription plans (in some regions) can be renewed indefinitely as long as you do not cancel.
How long does AppleCare+ last?
For iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods: AppleCare+ extends total coverage to 2 years from the original purchase date. For Mac: up to 3 years from purchase. The accidental-damage incident counter resets every 12 months for the duration of the plan. Monthly AppleCare+ subscriptions continue indefinitely until cancelled.
