About Motorola IMEI checks

Motorola — now a Lenovo subsidiary — manufactures the Moto G series (mid-range), Moto E series (budget), Edge series (flagship), Razr foldables, and the Motorola business / enterprise lineup. Every Motorola device sold globally carries a unique 15-digit IMEI registered with the GSMA, plus a Motorola-specific serial number used for warranty tracking.

On any Motorola phone, find the IMEI by dialling *#06# on the keypad, opening Settings → About phone → Status → IMEI, or checking the SIM card tray and original retail box. Razr foldables show the IMEI on the inside cover screen, and Motorola enterprise rugged devices print it on the battery compartment label.

Motorola IMEI checks reveal the exact model (e.g. Moto G84, Edge 50 Ultra, Razr 50 Ultra), the original carrier, the country of first sale, and warranty registration status. This is especially useful when buying a second-hand Motorola — the device may be a US carrier-locked model, a Brazilian dual-chip variant, or a global unlocked SKU. Each variant looks identical externally but has very different network compatibility.

For warranty status on Motorola devices, our IMEI checker identifies the model first, then you can verify warranty on Motorola's regional support portal. Motorola offers a one-year limited warranty in most markets, with extended Motorola Care+ available for an additional fee. To check whether a used Motorola has been reported lost or stolen, run the IMEI through our lost & stolen database.

Motorola IMEI & warranty FAQ

How do I check a Motorola IMEI number?
Dial *#06# on your Motorola phone — the IMEI displays immediately without making a call. You can also find it in Settings > About phone > Status > IMEI, on the original packaging, or printed on the SIM card tray. Paste the 15-digit number into our free IMEI checker to identify the exact Moto G, Moto E, Edge, or Razr model.
How long is Motorola warranty?
Motorola provides a one-year limited manufacturer warranty in most markets covering defects in materials and workmanship. The European Union mandates a two-year minimum. Motorola Care+ extends this with accidental damage protection and faster service for an additional fee. Battery and accessory warranty is typically 6 months.
Can I unlock a carrier-locked Motorola phone?
Yes. US carrier-locked Motorola phones (Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T) can be unlocked free of charge after the carrier's eligibility period — typically 60–90 days for prepaid lines and once the contract balance is paid for postpaid. Run our carrier lookup first to confirm the original carrier, then request unlock through that carrier's self-service portal.
What is a Motorola TAC code?
The TAC (Type Allocation Code) is the first 8 digits of any Motorola IMEI. It uniquely identifies the device model — e.g. all Moto G84 5G units share the same TAC. Our checker matches the TAC against the GSMA database to return the exact model, release year, and full hardware specs without needing access to the device itself.
Why does my Moto phone show two IMEIs?
Dual-SIM Motorola phones (most global SKUs of Moto G and Edge) have two IMEIs — one per SIM slot. Both are valid identifiers for the same physical device and share the same TAC. Use either IMEI for warranty lookup, blacklist check, or carrier identification.
How do I know if a used Motorola is stolen?
Run the IMEI through our free lost & stolen database before purchase. Motorola phones reported lost or stolen by their original owner are added to the GSMA global blacklist. A blacklisted IMEI is blocked from connecting to most cellular networks worldwide, even with a fresh SIM card.
Can I check a Razr foldable by IMEI?
Yes. Motorola Razr foldables (2019, 2020, 5G, 40 Ultra, 50 Ultra) all carry standard 15-digit IMEIs registered with the GSMA. The IMEI is shown on the inner foldable display via *#06#, and on the SIM tray label. Our IMEI checker identifies all Razr generations including carrier variants.
Are Motorola and Lenovo phones the same?
Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility in 2014. Phones branded "Lenovo" (mostly sold in China and India) and phones branded "Motorola" share manufacturing facilities and some platform architecture, but are distinct product lines with separate IMEI registrations. A Motorola IMEI returns Motorola as the manufacturer; a Lenovo phone IMEI returns Lenovo.
