About eSIM

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built directly into your device's hardware. Unlike a physical nano-SIM card that you insert and remove, an eSIM is activated digitally by scanning a QR code or through a carrier's app — no physical card needed.

eSIM technology enables dual-SIM functionality on devices with a single physical SIM slot, letting you maintain two phone numbers (personal and work, or domestic and travel) on one device. It's also the future of connectivity — Apple removed the physical SIM tray entirely from iPhone 14 and later models sold in the US.

However, not all devices support eSIM, and some carrier-locked devices may have eSIM functionality disabled. Our check verifies your specific device's eSIM capability using its IMEI.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Which phones support eSIM?
Most flagship phones from 2019 onwards support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later. However, support varies by region and carrier. Our tool checks your specific device by IMEI.
Can I use eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time?
Yes, most eSIM-capable phones support dual SIM (one physical + one eSIM). Some newer iPhones support dual eSIM with no physical SIM at all. This lets you have two active numbers on one device.
Is eSIM the same as an unlocked phone?
No. eSIM is a technology for digital SIM activation. A phone can support eSIM but still be carrier-locked. You may need to unlock your device before you can activate an eSIM from a different carrier.
Can eSIM be transferred to a new phone?
eSIM profiles can be transferred between compatible devices. On iPhone, you can transfer your eSIM during device setup. Some carriers allow you to re-download the eSIM profile on a new device through their app.
